Appetizers/Salads

Why should you NOT eat from that upon which God's name has been mentioned ? He has DETAILED for you what is prohibited for you, unless you are forced. Indeed, many people mislead others with their personal opinions, without knowledge. Your Lord is fully aware of the transgressors." 6:119

In the Name of God, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

Salad is a light meal - or part of a larger meal - consisting of mixed vegetables or fruit and at least one type of leaf vegatable, often with a dressing or sauce, occasionally nuts and the possibility of meat/fish/cheese on the side. It is usually seen as being low in calories, salt, sugar and fat, but this isn't necessarily true.

The purpose of an hors'uvre is to whet the appetite. In restaurants, hors duvre also serve the function of giving the kitchen time to prepare the first course (entrée) without leaving the guests waiting. They may be dishes which are quick to prepare or simply a buffet from which the diners serve themselves or are served by the waiters.

If there is a long waiting period between when the guests arrive and when the meal is served (for example, during a cocktail hour), these might also serve the purpose of sustaining guests during the long wait. Hors duvres are sometimes served with no meal served afterward. This is the case with many reception and cocktail party events.
